The Hindi Practice Groups are for students of Ashu ji's Hindi University who want to practice conversational Hindi, and/or to study the texts Ashu ji uses in class. All levels welcome! The only requirement is the spirit of Ashu ji's classes: patience, kindness, encouragement, and that it's OK to make mistakes to learn.
Practice, record and share your audio to a given prompt and provide comment back to the audios from others. An excellent opportunity to work on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and writing skills.

Host: Lisa (EST)

Using free material produced by Pratham Books, India to encourage reading in children. These children's stories are very helpful for us adult Hindi learners. The "emergent level" refers to the lowest reading level, designed for very early readers who are just beginning to learn to read, typically with simple sentences, lots of pictures, and familiar words, often featuring repetition to support comprehension. They provide a great opportunity to learn to read, build to a fluency in script recognition, to listen to a native speaker audio, to build vocabulary and to 'see grammar in action' . If you are just starting your Hindi Journey this year, this is a good place to start.
Hosts: Vena (EST)
When: Mondays at 3pm UTC (7am Pacific Time, 10 am EST)
We have gone through the whole Pingu Learns Hindi (PLH) book but we will use the PLH topics for our sessions and build on it. Devanagari script will be used. Believing that one of the best ways for us to learn the language is by teaching others, we take turns to collaborate and facilitate each session. We encourage those who join us to do the same.
Hosts: Scott ji & Jes ji
When: Saturdays at 2am UTC (10am Philippine Time)
A follow up to PLH which will focus on specific "conversation scenarios". We will work together to come up with "things you'd want to be able to say in that context", and make practice conversations. We will practice together till we feel more comfortable speaking in that context. Along the way we'll cover new grammar when needed, useful adverbial constructions etc. However, this will be more of a collaborative effort.
Host: Peter (USA)
When: Wednesdays at 5pm UTC (1pm Eastern Time)
These are children's stories of up to 250 simple words, with repetition. We read from the Devanagari script, tackle complex conjuncts as and when we encounter them and listen to the audios to help with pronunciation. A great way to build up vocabulary and see grammar in action.

Level 2 stories are up to 600 words and introduce simple concepts. At level 1, we usually did one story per week to give us plenty of time to review and take on board but we expect some Level 2 stories will take more than 1 week. We read from the Devanagari script, tackle complex conjuncts as and when we encounter them and listen to the audios to help with pronunciation. A great way to build up vocabulary and see grammar in action.
